Though the craft is ancient, It is actively practiced even today. The stunning carvings and detailed designs found in these metal pieces not only make them desirable collector’s items but also reflect the skill and creativity of the artisans who craft these exceptional works of art.

The term Dokra is derived from the metal-smith tribe ‘Dhokra Damar’, who has inhabited eastern Indian states of Bengal, Odisha and Chattisgarh. In Bengal, Dokra handicrafts are produced in Bikna village in Bankura and Dariyapur in Barddhaman. Dokra speaks volumes about India’s ancient expertise in metallurgy and metal craftsmanship.
