Aligarh

Brass idols

Aligarh is one of the prominent cities in Uttar Pradesh, located approximately 150 km from New Delhi. It serves as a significant manufacturing center for idols, locks, metal sculptures, and a diverse range of handmade products crafted from brass and other metals. The city is renowned for its production of brass items.

The brass industry employs thousands of skilled and unskilled workers, establishing it as a major hub for brass hardware manufacturing in India. In fact, Aligarh processes around 100 tons of brass daily, with a substantial portion utilized locally for creating brass artifacts. It is famously known as ‘Taala Nagri’—the city of locks. This reputation is due to its continued large-scale production of locks. However, the spotlight has shifted towards the creation of idols representing various deities. Some of the most commonly exported idols include those of Ganesha, Natraja, Buddha, Saraswati, Radha, and Krishna.
