Basmati is a type of long, slender-grained aromatic rice that has its origins in India. Ferozepur district in Punjab is well-known for producing some of the finest Basmati rice varieties in the sub-continent. Ferozepur Basmati has always been in high demand from both local merchants and international markets. It’s famous for its delicious flavor, enticing aroma, and perfect texture, making it a staple in traditional Punjabi dishes like Pulao, Gur-rice and Kheer. Basmati also used extensively to make exclusive non-vegetarian dishes such as Biryani across the globe, particularly in the Gulf countries. India registered its GI tag for Basmati rice in European Union (EU) in 2016.
